Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development (OVCRD) Funded
Conference Research Dissemination Grant. This grant provides financial support to enable UPD Colleges/Units to host conferences in line with the UniversityÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ mission and vision. Please note that the grant is not offered on a regular basis.
Intellectual Property (IP) Protection Grants. These grants provide funding support to researchers and creative workers of UPD who would like to engage in protecting their research or creative work outputs. They aim to assist and encourage faculty members and Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS) in securing IP rights such as copyright, patent, utility model, industrial design, trademark, and trade secret as well as securing certifications and/or regulatory requirements needed for certain products/processes.
There are two types of IP Protection Grants:
1. Philippine Protection Grant for local IPR filings
2. Foreign Protection Grant for international phases, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty route and the National Phase Entry in other countries.
Open Grants. These support UPD interdisciplinary, multi-disciplinary, or cross-disciplinary research and creative works of the highest standards. It is hoped these research or creative works will lead to evidence-based interventions, breakthrough policies, notable creative works, and/or innovative technologies with excellent socio-economic potential.
Outright Research Grants. These aim to support UPD researchers and creative workers embarking on start-up projects. The grants may co-fund major projects and are available to research or creative works in any field from all academic clusters in the University.
PhD Incentive Awards. These provide the necessary incentives and support to UPD faculty members and REPS who recently obtained their PhDs to establish their research or creative work in UPD. These awards are also incentives for new PhD holders to publish their dissertations in reputable, refereed journals or exhibit their creations in prestigious venues or events. This way, grantees can begin establishing publication or exhibition records that will strengthen their chances of obtaining future grants for further research or creative work.
REPS Development Fund. This fund is used to support UPD REPS in the dissemination of research output, attendance in conferences, seminars, workshops, training courses, in-house training and fellowships (formal education support), or a one-time incentive for completing a degree.
Research Dissemination Grants (RDG). RDG is used for the purpose of allowing faculty members to present research papers at international conferences.
Source of Solutions Grants (SOS). These grants provide funding to support commissioned research or creative work on results-oriented projects or programs, open innovation solutions, or front-end ideation to R&D addressing immediate challenges and pressing concerns of/in UPD. These aim to promote the strategic value of UPD as a microcosm of Philippine society and, therefore, a great source of solutions (SOS) to many of the most difficult national problems (in education, risk and disaster management, land use, transportation, community safety, etc.).
Technology Transfer Grants. These provide funding to support researchers and creative workers of UPD who engage in further development of their research or creative work outputs to increase the technology readiness level, market readiness level, and/or investment readiness level of their IP towards successful technology transfer.
There are three types of Technology Transfer Grants:
1. Market Validation Grant â€“ provides funding to support researchers and creative workers to conduct a market assessment of their IPs
2. Business Model/Plan Grant â€“ provides funding to support researchers and creative workers to prepare a detailed business or technology transfer strategy for their IPs.
3. Prototyping and Scale-up Grant â€“ provides funding to support researchers and creative workers to optimize their technologies and IPs for mass commercialization.
Thesis and Dissertation Grants. These grants assist UPD personnel in the completion of their MA/MS theses or PhD dissertations, which are requirements for graduate degrees. Thesis and Dissertation Grants support theses and dissertation works in any academic discipline.
UPD Extension Grant. This is an outright grant administered by the OVCRD to support extension projects of UPD faculty members, REPS, and staff that receive minimal or no funding support from any organization. The grant aims to promote and encourage UPD personnel to contribute to achieving excellence in social and public service, especially with underserved and marginalized sectors and communities.
Research and Creative Work Load Credits (Without Project Funding). This supports UPD/UPDEPP faculty members doing research or creative work without project funding. Through this, a facultyÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ teaching load is reduced to 12 units per semester or 24 units per academic year.
UP System Grants
Emerging S&T Fields Grant. This supports inter/multi-disciplinary research programs or projects related to the Board of Regents-approved list of emerging fields in S&T.

MEASUREMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION (in support of Materials, Biotechnology and Pervasive Computing)

Creative Work and Research Grants. These grants encourage faculty members and REPS to do research that will lead to publications, exhibitions, or performances of creative work, or other significant output such as patents, new software, and advanced technologies. To ensure the quality of output, work resulting from the grant is refereed prior to the full release of the grant.
Textbook Writing Grant. This supports the writing of textbooks of core courses of undergraduate degree programs, including reference books, workbook, and laboratory manuals, in print or other media, in whatever language the course is taught.
Applicants may apply individually or as a group. In the case of a group, the total amount of the grant shall be pro-rated according to the rank of the applicants and the proportion of work to be done by each.
Post-Doctoral Research Grant. This supports regular, full-time faculty and REPS who obtained their PhD in the three years prior to availing of the grant. Priority is given to those who received their PhD in UP or a Philippine university in order to expose them to a foreign academic institution or another academic environment.
Sabbatical Research Grant. This grant is intended for faculty members on sabbatical who will undertake research or creative work during their period of leave from teaching and other duties.
Science and Engineering Graduate Scholarship (SEGS) Grant. This grant aims to improve the nationÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scientific and engineering human resources in pursuit of the desire to make the country a major player in the global economy. The partner institution for this grant is the Commission on Higher Education.
Integrated S&T Agenda in Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Grant. The S&T Agenda Grant is organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST). It aims to provide the directions to enable the agriculture, forestry and natural resources (AFNR) sectors to flourish. The S&T Agenda provides areas where the University could conduct R&D, particularly with regard to knowledge and technology generation. Proposals following the required DOST format (DOST Capsule R&D Proposals) may be submitted for possible PCARRD and DOST funding.
