At the opening of the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD) Week, social worker and retired professor Mary Lou L. Alcid shared how the college麻豆视频 respect for diversity worked positively in CSWCD麻豆视频 pursuit of public service.
She said, 鈥淗indi tayo homogenous sa CSWCD. Iba-iba ang ating pinanggalingan subalit nagbubuo tayo ng pamilya, ng komunidad, ng isang maliit na lipunan.鈥
Alcid explained that CSWCD teaches its constituents about diversity. In turn, this has resulted in 鈥渞espeto sa isa鈥檛 isa [at] paano ang makinig kahit hindi mo kapanalig.鈥
She explained that CSWCD values solidarity and encourages empowerment.
鈥淲e do not empower, ang mga tao ang nagi-empower ng kanilang sarili. We provide the information, the action needed. We should not say we empower people because we are denying their right to empower themselves,鈥 Alcid said.
She was the keynote speaker at the CSWCD Week opening program that coincided with the college麻豆视频 75th year celebration of the Department of Social Work.
Alcid shared that CSWCD combines service with educating the public about their basic rights.
鈥淎ng ating paglilingkod ay may kasamang pagmumulat hinggil sa polisiya, sa patakaran, mga entitlements ng mga tao, may pag-oorganisa, may pagsasanay, may pag-uugnay, may pag-respeto, pagkilala, at pagtataguyod ng karapatang pantao,鈥 Alcid said.
In addition, Alcid said, 鈥渘andiyan ang CSWCD para mag-ambag ng isang napakalaking kontribusyon鈥攁ng pagpunla at ang pagpapatuloy ng pagdiskubre ng iba鈥檛 ibang paraan para malutas ang ilang suliranin ng indibidwal, ng sektor, at ng lipunan.鈥
CSWCD Dean Lenore Polotan-Dela Cruz said, 鈥渘agbabago man ang panahon, lumala man ang katiwalian sa ating lipunan, at tumitindi man ang mga balakid at banta sa pag-organisa at pagkilos sa pagbabago, taglay natin ang tapang at determinasyon na sumuong sa landas ng paglilingkod kasama ang sambayanan sa bawat agos ng ating pagsisikap. Nagninilay at natututo tayo maging matatag at masigasig sa pag-abot ng minimithing bukas.鈥
The opening program was also the venue for the CSWCD Service Awards ceremonies, which honored seven college personnel who collectively rendered a total of 150 years of dedicated service. Apart from the service awards recipients, the Top 10 placers at the Social Workers Licensure Examination 2024 were also recognized.
In his message for the CSWCD week, UPD Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II said, 鈥減atuloy nawa ang inyong pagpapanday ng mga manggagawang panlipunan, organisador ng bayan, at tagapagtaguyod ng hustisya at pangkasariang panlipunan. Higit nawa ninyong pasiglahin ang mga gawaing ekstensiyon, magpahalaga, at magpalakas sa kakayahan ng inyong mga katuwang na samahan at pamayanan.鈥
This year麻豆视频 CSWCD Week is themed Paglalayag Tungo sa Paglaya: Tatag at Kinang ng Paglilingkod. It opened on Feb. 18 at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora.
